Mission of the MMIS group

Mission statement

The purpose of the MMIS group is to provide an informal forum for the exchange of research ideas and teaching concepts in the area of multimedia information systems. Regular meetings, this Web site, and the MMIS Forum are the means to achieve this. A common architecture for MMIS has been developed and published, so that the individual projects can be put in place and can identify interfaces among them.

Members statements

"Multimedia Information Systems are the future of the well informed world.
MMIS are very interesting, amazing, unknown and unpredictable,
and we are the guys that investigate, discover, develop and sometimes predict."

by Maciej Suchomski

"Multimedia information systems are the technological basis for future encyclopaedias and libraries. Their importance will grow as mankind relies on them to transport knowledge from one generation to the next. Hence, it is a great challenge to make them usable and reliable."

by Klaus Meyer-Wegener

"We consider Multimedia Information Systems an enabling technology for infotainment: the integration of information, communication, and entertainment. Today - thanks to the world-wide web - we can easily imagine large, global MMIS supporting millions of users in the office, at home, and on the way. However, providing all of them with the best possible experience and benefit - at any time, any place, any environment - is still a vision that guides our work."
