The Scintra-project started in summer 2002 and was closed in summer 2004. It treated with the problem of accessing heterogenous, distributed data sources by using a database. The difference to the Garlic-Project is the ad-hoc-integration of external data sources. In detail: Extracting data from heterogeneous data sources and transferring data into the data base system is one of the most cost-intensive problems. In this project, we investigated an architecture which enables the flexible integration of data sources into any target database system. The approach was based on the idea to split the classical wrapping module into a source specific and a target specific part and establish the communication between these components based on core Java or WebService technology.
