The Mobile workflow management research is structured according to the two main components of a workflow management solution, the workflow management system(WfMS) and the workflow management application(WfMA). A workflow management application runs on top of a workflow management system. Therefore, the latter must provide a workflow language that is used to describe workflows. The workflow management system either supports a build time and a run time environment. The former enables workflow modelling, the latter enables workflow execution. The whole structure of a workflow management system is described by its architecture. A workflow management application comprises a set of specifications (e.g. workflows, organization, applications) which altogether model a real world business scenario. A workflow management application is the result of an engineering and development cycle which starts with the analysis of a real world business scenario and continues with the definition of application processes (often called business processes, production processes, etc.). To derive workflows from application processes extends the Mobile project into the direction of application (business) process modelling.
