The RETAVIC project
Environment description
The DROPS was chosen as our environmental real-time
operating system. It will run on very powerful machine
that will be called by our
department MultiMonster (see also "MultiMonster - a new story").
DROPS
DROPS is a real-time operating system designed at the Technical
University of Dresden in order to support real-time application with quality-of-service requirements, especially
continuous-media applications.

MultiMonster
Initially the MultiMonster was meant only for the physical equipment
used by RETAVIC. However, thanks to the interest of Marc Issler, Jörg
Meier and Holger Velke (students of FAU) in team work on multimedia, we've
decided to initiate a new project (for more info check
"MultiMonster - a
new story")
Server for RETAVIC
Since end of 2003, we've installed the very powerful
server on our department. The MultiMonster is a cluster build of one queen
bee and 12 bees. Below is architecture overview (logical schema), some
pictures of the installed hardware and detailed specification of
equipment.
