SCINTRA

Project Description

The SCINTRA (Semi-Consistend INtegrated Time-oriented Replication Approach) project started in July 2001 and was closed in summer 2004. It dealed with the problem of using database technologies in (Data) Grids. The main focus was on the consistency problem.
The reason for inconsistencies is that the members of a Grid are note permanent available. Therefore, informations may be exchanged at different points. Joing these informations would result in a global inconsistent state. Based on different data sets SCINTRA tries to generate semi-consistent states. These states depend on timeliness and consistency, which can be determined by the user. In addition the local data management and the distributed query processing in the Grid based on the specified inconsistency values are some problems.
